Static Front Page

This is a tutorial which will provide you with steps on how to remove the frontpage blog from your Wordpress installation, and create a(or use an existing) static page, using the FrontPage-CMS template.

There are also steps provided to create an additional News/Blog page.

Step 1:

Access the administration panel of your Wordpress site and click Pages on the left side menu bar:

Step 2:

If you already have a page created that you would like to use as the Frontpage please skip to Step 4, edit the page you would like to use and then in the Attributes block on the right hand side, select the Template option as FrontPage – CMS, and change the Order to 1.

Next to the Edit Pages title, click Add New.

Step 3:

Enter the title "Frontpage" and enter the text you would like on your frontpage using the wysiwyg editor. Then in the Attributes block on the right hand side, select the Template option as FrontPage – CMS, and change the Order to 1.

Additionally uncheck the option for comments if desired.

Cick Publish.

Step 4:

Next we are going to create a Blog/News page for your site, if you would only like to have a static paged website please skip this step.

Click Add New on the Pages submenu on the left hand side, and this time enter the title "Blog" or "News" or whatever you prefer. Then this time in the Attributes block on the right hand side select Page – Blog, and change the order to 2.

Additionally uncheck the option for comments if desired.

Click Publish.

Step 5:

With your Frontpage-CMS and Blog pages(if Step 4 has been followed), you are ready to configured Wordpress so users can see your new Frontpage.

Click Settings on the left side menu bar, and click Reading. You will then be presented with options for defining how your Frontpage Displays.

Select A Static Page from the radio button options, and with the first drop down for Frontpage, select the page you would like to have as your frontpage. If you followed Step 4 select the Posts Page dropdown as the Blog page that you created.

Click Save Changes, and then click visit site, and now you should have a working static page set as the Frontpage. The FrontPage-CMS template supports the same widget positions as the default page template.
